The largest shipping 3D printer for home use in the database is the Elegoo OrangeStorm Giga, with an 800 × 800 × 1000 mm build volume (31.5 × 31.5 × 39.4 in), about 640 liters. It launched at $2,499.99. Next comes the 500 mm class: the Sovol SV08 Max at 500 × 500 × 500 mm and the FLSUN V400 Max delta at Ø 500 × 550 mm.

The table lists all 25 shipping printers in the database with a bed of at least 300 mm on its shorter side, largest volume first. Delta printers have a round bed, so their build volume is a diameter and a height. Their liters are worked out as a cylinder. A dash means the maker published no figure.

What is the largest 3D printer for home use?

The Elegoo OrangeStorm Giga has the largest build volume of any shipping printer in the database: 800 × 800 × 1000 mm, about 640 liters, at a $2,499.99 launch price. The next largest are the Sovol SV08 Max at 500 × 500 × 500 mm (125 liters) and the FLSUN V400 Max delta at Ø 500 × 550 mm.

The Giga is big as a machine too. Elegoo lists it at 1,224 × 1,164 × 1,425 mm overall and 104 kg net, and builds its bed from four independent 410 × 410 mm heated platforms.

Industrial large-format printers go further. BigRep lists the BigRep ONE at 1005 × 1005 × 1005 mm. Machines in that class fall outside this database, which covers desktop and consumer printers.

How big can a desktop 3D printer print?

Desktop printers in the database range from 152.4 × 152.4 × 152.5 mm on the Sovol Zero to the OrangeStorm Giga’s 800 × 800 × 1000 mm. Of the 56 shipping printers, 31 have a bed under 300 mm, 23 of them at 256 mm or less. The other 25 are large format, and seven reach 400 mm or more.

These are advertised figures. Brims, purge areas and second nozzles take some of that space, as the build volume guide explains. For the outer size of the machines themselves, see 3D printer dimensions.

Which printers have a 350 mm or 500 x 500 mm build volume?

Three shipping printers in the database have a 350 mm bed: the Anycubic Kobra S1 Max and Creality K2 Plus at 350 × 350 × 350 mm, and the Sovol SV08 at 350 × 350 × 345 mm. Three reach 500 mm: the Sovol SV08 Max, the FLSUN V400 Max and the OrangeStorm Giga.

Of the three, only the Sovol SV08 Max has a square 500 × 500 mm bed. The FLSUN V400 Max is a delta with a round 500 mm bed, and the OrangeStorm Giga goes past 500 mm to 800 × 800 mm.

Between the two classes sit the Original Prusa XL+ at 360 × 360 × 360 mm, the QIDI Max4 at 390 × 390 × 340 mm, and four printers at 400 to 420 mm.

What is the biggest printer from each brand?

By build volume, the largest shipping printer from each brand in the database is the Elegoo OrangeStorm Giga, Sovol SV08 Max, FLSUN V400 Max, Anycubic Kobra 3 Max, Creality Ender-5 Max, Snapmaker Artisan, QIDI Max4, Original Prusa XL+, Bambu Lab H2S and, for Flashforge, the Creator 5 and Creator 5 Pro. Their figures follow.

  • Elegoo: OrangeStorm Giga, 800 × 800 × 1000 mm.
  • Sovol: SV08 Max, 500 × 500 × 500 mm.
  • FLSUN: V400 Max, Ø 500 × 550 mm.
  • Anycubic: Kobra 3 Max and Kobra 3 Max V2, both 420 × 420 × 500 mm.
  • Creality: Ender-5 Max, 400 × 400 × 400 mm. The Ender-3 V3 Mega, at 420 × 420 × 420 mm, is announced but not yet shipping.
  • Snapmaker: Artisan, 400 × 400 × 400 mm.
  • QIDI: Max4, 390 × 390 × 340 mm.
  • Prusa Research: Original Prusa XL+, 360 × 360 × 360 mm.
  • Bambu Lab: H2S, 340 × 320 × 340 mm. The H2D is 325 × 320 × 325 mm.
  • Flashforge: Creator 5 and Creator 5 Pro, both 256 × 256 × 256 mm, so neither appears in the table above.

Do I need a large-format 3D printer?

Yes, if you print single parts wider than about 250 mm, large helmets and props, or full plates of parts in batches. No, if your parts fit a mainstream 256 mm bed: bigger models can be split and glued. A large printer takes more floor space, and its bigger bed heats more slowly.

The trade-off in figures: launch prices in the table run from $349 to $3,799. Sovol lists the SV08 Max at 700 × 710 × 750 mm overall, not counting the spool holder. Elegoo states that the OrangeStorm Giga’s four platforms take 17 minutes to reach 100 °C across the whole bed at a 25 °C room temperature.

To size from your own parts, use what size 3D printer you need. Large 3D printer cost covers the price side, and the large printers under $1,000, large enclosed, large CoreXY and large multicolor lists narrow this table.
