Chamber temperature specs of popular 3D printers compared

Enclosed printers are not all rated the same way. This table lists every enclosed printer in the database by its stated maximum chamber temperature, and separates actively heated chambers from passive enclosures.

Enclosed printers fall into three groups in this table. Printers with a dedicated chamber heater, such as the Bambu Lab H2D and QIDI Plus4, are rated 60 to 65 °C. Passive enclosures such as the Prusa CORE One state 50 to 60 °C. Others, such as the Bambu Lab P1S, publish no chamber figure at all.

Which printers have actively heated chambers?

The printers marked “actively heated chamber” in the table have a dedicated chamber heater, and their makers rate them 60 to 65 °C: the Bambu Lab H2D and QIDI Plus4 at 65 °C, the Creality K2 Plus at 60 °C. A chamber heater warms the air around the part directly, so it depends less on the bed.

What does a passive chamber rating mean?

A passive chamber rating is the temperature an enclosure reaches from the heated bed and hotend, with no chamber heater. It depends on bed temperature, room temperature and warm-up time, so it is not directly comparable to an active rating. The Bambu Lab X1-Carbon is rated 60 °C and the Prusa CORE One 55 °C on that basis.

Tom’s Hardware’s review of the Prusa CORE One notes that the bed heats its chamber, with no separate chamber heater.

Why do some enclosed printers show no chamber temperature?

Some enclosed printers, including the Bambu Lab P1S, Creality K1 Max and Elegoo Centauri Carbon, have no published maximum chamber temperature. A dash in the table means the maker does not state the figure. It does not mean the chamber stays at room temperature, and it is not an estimate of zero.

Why does chamber temperature matter?

Materials that shrink as they cool, such as acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), acrylonitrile styrene acrylate (ASA) and nylon, are prone to warping and layer splitting when the air around the part is cold. A warmer chamber slows that cooling. The target temperature depends on the material and the part, so check the filament maker’s guidance.
