Are 3D printers getting cheaper? Launch prices by year

The cheapest new 3D printer has launched at $199 to $369 every year since 2022, so the floor has barely moved. What got cheaper is everything above it: a heated chamber fell from $1,399 to $499 at launch, and an enclosure from $1,199 to $299.99.

3D printers are getting cheaper for what they do, but not at the bottom of the market. In the database, the cheapest printer released each year since 2022 launched at $199 to $369. Features that cost $1,000 or more a few years ago now launch far lower: an actively heated chamber went from $1,399 in 2023 to $499 in 2025, and an enclosed printer from $1,199 in 2022 to $299.99 in 2025.

The figures on this page are US launch prices from the printer records, grouped by each printer’s release year. They include discontinued models. Nine printers with no release date in their records are excluded. The database is a set of consumer and prosumer desktop printers, not a census, so read the medians as a guide to the mix of models rather than a market average.

Are 3D printers getting cheaper?

Yes for features, no for the cheapest machine. The lowest launch price has stayed between $199 and $369 every year since 2022. Above that floor, prices plunged: the cheapest heated chamber dropped from $1,399 to $499 between 2023 and 2025, and the cheapest printer with more than one nozzle from $2,999 in 2022 to $649 in 2026.

Entry launch price of each feature, by release year:

The X2D shows the drop within one brand. Bambu Lab’s H2D, released in March 2025, launched at $1,899 with two nozzles and a 65 °C heated chamber. The X2D brought both features to $649 in April 2026, with a smaller 256 mm build volume.

How have 3D printer prices changed over time?

The median launch price of the printers released each year has moved with the mix of models rather than falling steadily: $949 in 2022, $549 in 2023, $799 in 2024 and $624 in both 2025 and 2026. The cheapest launch held at $199 to $369, while the most expensive ran from $2,299 to $2,999.

By release year, in the database:

Makers keep adding premium models as feature prices fall, which props up the median. The years before 2022 have too few records to compare. The 3D printer price range guide breaks down today’s shipping printers by price band and enclosure class.

Are 3D printers getting more expensive in 2026?

Not on launch prices. The 16 printers in the database released in 2026 so far launched at $299 to $2,299, with a median of $624, the same as the 20 released in 2025. Several 2026 models brought features down in price, such as the Bambu Lab X2D’s two nozzles and heated chamber at $649.

Three other 2026 launches show the range. The Elegoo Centauri Carbon 2 is an enclosed CoreXY at $399. The QIDI Plus5 has a 65 °C heated chamber around a 320 × 320 × 300 mm build volume at $749. The Anycubic Kobra 3 Max V2 prints 420 × 420 × 500 mm at $599, $100 less than the original Kobra 3 Max’s launch price.

A launch price is fixed on release day. Store prices change afterward with sales and adjustments. This page does not track them, so it cannot say whether a given printer will drop in price. The records do show that over several years most features, from enclosures to extra nozzles, have reached lower entry prices. The new 3D printers of 2026 list has every 2026 release with its specs.
