Creality K1 Max vs Bambu Lab X1-Carbon: spec comparison

The Creality K1 Max and the Bambu Lab X1-Carbon are both enclosed CoreXY printers with lidar and AI failure detection. Build volume, speed claim, firmware license and price are where the spec sheets split.

The Creality K1 Max and the Bambu Lab X1-Carbon are enclosed CoreXY printers, which move the toolhead in X and Y and the bed only in Z. Both list a 300 °C hotend, a 120 °C bed and a hardened steel nozzle, with a laser-based lidar sensor and camera-based AI failure detection. The K1 Max lists the larger build volume and higher top speed, the X1-Carbon a chamber temperature, and they launched at $899 and $1,199.

What is the difference between the Creality K1 Max and the Bambu Lab X1-Carbon?

The Creality K1 Max lists a 300 × 300 × 300 mm build volume and a 600 mm/s maximum speed. The Bambu Lab X1-Carbon lists 256 × 256 × 256 mm and 500 mm/s. Both claim 20,000 mm/s² acceleration and 32 mm³/s flow. The K1 Max firmware source is public; the X1-Carbon firmware is proprietary.

How much bigger is the Creality K1 Max build volume?

The Creality K1 Max holds about 60% more volume than the Bambu Lab X1-Carbon. The K1 Max lists 300 × 300 × 300 mm, or 27 liters; the X1-Carbon lists 256 × 256 × 256 mm, about 16.8 liters. Each axis is 44 mm longer on the K1 Max.

Per-axis length decides whether a large part prints in one piece. Say the part has a 280 × 280 mm footprint: it fits inside the K1 Max’s listed 300 × 300 mm, but on the X1-Carbon it would have to be split into sections.

Do both printers have heated chambers?

Neither the Creality K1 Max nor the Bambu Lab X1-Carbon has a chamber heater. Bambu Lab states a 60 °C chamber temperature for the X1-Carbon’s enclosure; Creality publishes none for the K1 Max. This database lists both as passive enclosures, warmed only by the bed and hotend. The chamber temperature list shows how other enclosed printers compare.

What firmware do they run?

The Creality K1 Max runs Creality OS, which is based on the open-source Klipper firmware. Creality publishes the K1 Max source on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. The Bambu Lab X1-Carbon runs Bambu Lab’s proprietary firmware. The firmware guide explains what open source changes in practice.

Connectivity differs too. The K1 Max lists Ethernet and USB alongside Wi-Fi; the X1-Carbon lists Wi-Fi and an SD card.

Are both printers still available?

Creality still lists the Creality K1 Max as a current model. The Bambu Lab X1-Carbon is discontinued: Bambu Lab announced the end of the X1 series, and the X1-Carbon reached end of life on March 31, 2026. New units now depend on remaining retail stock.
